As Rob and I plan for our upcoming wedding, one detail that has been particularly important for me was inviting our closest friends and family members to stand beside us when we say “I do” to Rob. I wanted to make the moment particularly special for three very sweet girls. One of my best friends is standing up as my Matron of Honor and all three of her daughters (Keegan, Clancy and Moira) will be flower girls at my wedding. I have known each of these young ladies since they were babies and it has filled me with such pride and joy to watch them blossom and grow.
Simplicity and elegance will be two big themes of my wedding day and I wanted to incorporate this theme into my invitation for the flower girls. I wanted to the moment to be special, fun and surprising for the girls; but in a way that is sweet, simple, and (most importantly) budget friendly. What better way is there to celebrate being a flower girl, than with a basket of flower petals?
My visit to the girls house one summer morning was completely typical and casual. The girls were secretly dying to stand up as flower girls in my wedding but were too polite to ask or put pressure on me. They didn’t know the surprise I had in store for them this morning (as evidenced by their summer hair-do’s and a certain Star Wars t-shirt). I waited until the girls were outside playing in the backyard before I quickly set up shop and placed three satin baskets filled with silk rose petals on a small table in their family room. I also added three personalized cards, inviting them to stand up in my wedding as my flower girls.
Once everything was set up, I called the girls inside and insisted that they needed to see something. They came into the family room, saw the table display, and immediately hushed. They just quietly stared at the baskets and cards. I’m not sure if they were in shock or awe; but it was a much quieter moment than I was anticipating.
Finally, after a few moments and a LOT of staring, the girls approached the tabletop display and began explore the surprise I created for them.
As you might expect, when I asked the trio if they would be my flower girls, they said “YES!”

If you are getting married and want to invite a special little lady (or two…. or three!) to be your flower girl, you can download this simple two-sided invitation. It’s an editable Powerpoint so you can easily add the name of your flower girl to the front and your own name on the back. I used the sweet doodle font KG Only Hope to type the girls names. You will need to download and install it on your computer if you would like your font to match the cards I made. The font is free to download.
