As I was planning our vintage-theme wedding, I spent hours researching the perfect bridesmaid dresses to fit the theme and accent my ivory lace dress. My own dress was relatively simple in design and I wanted my bridesmaids to look effortlessly classic as well. Since our reception was outdoors, it was equally important they be comfortable in the summer heat. With my goals in mind, the search for the perfect vintage-inspired bridesmaid dresses began.
I visited several local bridal shops, spent hours on Pinterest and even more time surfing my favorite wedding blogs in search of inspiration. At last, I settled in on the Dessy Collection. I knew I wanted my bridesmaids to wear chiffon because the fabric is so flowy and romantic and I knew it would look gorgeous flowing in a soft summer breeze. I initially looked at many other designers but gave the Dessy Collection the most focus since their prices were lower than most designers for very similar dresses. It was one thing for me to spend a small fortune on my wedding, but I could not justify asking my bridesmaids to pay an unnecessarily high price for a dress from a trendy designer that they will likely never wear again.
At last, I stumbled upon Dessy Collection Style 2897.
This was it! the perfect chiffon vintage chic bridesmaid dress. I loved how the chiffon halter was an unexpected neckline that you don’t often see and the the wide satin waistband had a distinctly elegant vibe. The dress reminded me of formal attire from the 1920s and I immediately knew it would be perfect for my wedding.
Color selection was the next item of business. I knew I wanted create an ombre effect with a mixture of soft blues and grays. Ultimately I decided on oyster, larkspur, platinum and cloudy (colors are shown on my bridesmaids from left to right in the photo below).
Rob and I decided to do a first look and it was one of the best parts of our day. We spent 45 minutes or so just posing for portraits and enjoying some calm time by ourselves. Our bridal party joined us a little while later. They all arrived at same time (by trolley of course!) and I was in awe of how well the color palette came together.
Throughout 14 months of wedding planning, I carefully considered every single detail. From dress styles and colors for the women; to suit styles, bowties, suspenders and shoes for the men. It was an exhaustingly wonderful process and I crossed my fingers hoping that every detail would come together and fit the vision in my head.
When I saw each of my best friends looking particularly elegant with one of my dapper brothers on their arm, I just about died. Everything came together even better than I had imagined.
It couldn’t have been any more perfect.
