With the wedding only 95 days away, Rob and I are slowly chiseling away at our “to do” list. Bridesmaid dresses are in, wedding invitations are addressed and all of our floral and event details are pretty well nailed down. With all of our progress, one item continues to hang over my head, taunting me with each day that goes by: the wedding hashtag.
Yes, I know it sounds trivial. Actually, I am fully aware that the hashtag Rob and I choose for our wedding IS insignificant and does not really matter in the grand scheme of things. But I’m a blogger. And I love scrolling through Instagram. And hashtags just make me so HAPPY. And I really, really, REALLY want to have the perfect hashtag for our wedding.
Just in case you are like my mom and don’t own a smartphone, use an iPad or have a Facebook account and are wondering what the heck a hashtag is, I’ll give you the quick rundown. When people share things on social media, they can tag their post or photos by adding a # in front of a phrase and the text immediately following the # turns into a link. The words or numbers usually reference a theme of some sort, such as #tgif, #selfie or #wedding. People who read your post or look at your photo can click on the hashtag you created and see ALL of the posts shared by other people on social media (usually strangers) that use the same hashtag and reference the theme. Rob and I often post photos on our Instagram account and we like to tag all photos of the 2 of us with the hashtag #crazytogetherblog so people can easily find those images in one place.
As you can imagine, I was overjoyed last week when a post from WeddingWire appeared in Instagram feed, containing two little words that were music to my ears: HASHTAG GENERATOR. That’s right! WeddingWire has a webpage that automatically generates hashtag suggestions specifically for your wedding. Users just have to enter a few basic details such as the first and last names of the bride and groom along with the location of the wedding, the theme, and a few other small details. Once the details have been entered, users simply need to click “show me the hashtags” to access a unique and personalized wedding hashtag created for your wedding.
I was so excited to try this out for myself. Initially, the hashtag generator only provides one hashtag, but you can click “show me the hashtags” as many times as you want and each time, the generator will provide a fresh new hashtag. As you can imagine, my days are jam-packed and I don’t have a lot of time to spare for trivial matters on the internet. But the wedding hashtag generator pulled me right in and I was mesmerized.
Here are a few of my favorite hashtag suggestions for our upcoming wedding:
I like the simplicity of the #FinallyGavin hashtag, but it doesn’t really fit our story. Rob and I dated for a little over a year before we were engaged and even now we have been together for a little over two years. The #FinallyGavin hashtags sounds like he and I have been dating for YEARS and I waited eagerly for Rob to propose. That’s just not us. Everything happened at exactly the right time and we have never felt compelled to move anything in a hurry. All in the Lord’s time.
I will be the first to admit that #TheManvins hashtag is lacking in elegance, yet somehow, I still love it. It’s casual and fun and I’m pretty sure Rob and I will adopt #TheManvins as our unofficial engagement hashtag.
Rob and I both love this one! I love the simplicity and how easily the words roll off the tongue. Especially, since Rob and I always talk about our “happily ever after.” It’s also fairly common, which is our biggest reservation about using #HappilyEverGavins as our wedding hashtag, but isn’t it just so sweet?
The schoolteacher in me kind of likes the #RobandMariaSittinginaTree hashtag, but I’m not 100% on board. Mostly because this little rhyme reminds me of childhood taunts and I don’t want to connect anything with a negative connotation with our wedding.
A part of me kind of loves this one. I like how it’s a play on “Here Comes the Bride”, but it doesn’t just mention the bride – Rob gets to be a part of it too!
The spirit of this wedding hashtag is wonderful, but I feel like it might be placing so much emphasis on me becoming a Gavin, that it implies that I’m somehow happy to no longer be a Manore. And that’s not the case at all. I love my past and I’m a little sad to officially say goodbye to my maiden name.
This hashtag is another one of my favorites. I know that our marriage will not be simple, sweet and without complications; but the #OnCloudGavin hashtag lets us enjoy one day of pure lighthearted joy.
This hashtag makes the start of Rob and my life together sound so official (in a good way!) And it will be a great hashtag for the two of us to use beyond the wedding day. I can easily see us reusing this hashtag for our anniversary celebrations.
The #OhHappyGavins hashtag is simple and cute, but this one doesn’t make much reference to the wedding. It feels more like a hashtag that Rob and I would use regularly on our CrazyTogetherBlog Instagram Account.
I like the idea of #RobandMariaSayIDo wedding hashtag because it references both of us by name and references the wedding at the same time. This one is definitely on my list of contenders!
Wedding Hashtags We Love But Would Never Use
There was also an entire sub-category of humorous wedding hashtags that we thought were so funny, but would not ever use for our wedding (mostly because they were a little too silly for such a momentous day in our lives). I couldn’t help but share them with you!
#GavinPutARingOnIt
#adiosManore
#TakeMetoGavintown
Rob’s Wedding Hashtag Idea
Rob’s good friend Erin often says that Rob has the best “dad” jokes. You know … silly puns that are the kind of clean humor only a dad would tell to his children. It’s true. While I was busy hitting “refresh”on the Wedding Wire hashtag generator, Rob was busy brainstorming the perfect wedding hashtag.
I realize it’s a little long, but Rob’s “great idea” is definitely on our list of hashtags to consider for our wedding!

How about #robandmariaforevertogether ?
I’ve so enjoyed following your wedding journey. Congratulations to you both!

#Gavinsinlove because it simply states the beginning of your life together & should you add to your family, it still fits because now you are in love with the new addition.
I love OnCloudGavin – I haven’t seen anything like that from any weddings I have been to!
Happily Ever Gavins is probably my favorite. I kind of like GavinMeetsManore like boy meets girl. But maybe that would have been better as your dating hashtag.
Awe, so many good ones! I didn’t realize wedding wire had a hashtag generator. We just got married in November – my last name is Hoffmann and my husband’s is Diffenderffer so we went with #diffenhoffs – such a great idea for everyone to share pictures — we had our hashtag printed on our cocktail napkins!
Your hashtag was really great! And I love that you had it printed on your cocktail napkins!
I don’t why, but #ManoreNoMore is stuck in my head now, haha!
*I don’t know why
I really need to learn to proofread! I’ll be a teacher next year! ;)
I love #RobandMariaSittinginaTree not childish at all! I also love a previous commenter’s suggestion of #RobandMariaForever
I really like the #RobandMariaWhatAGreatIdea that just sounds so permanent, especially for a wedding day. Then every day after.
