Today is the first birthday of Crazy Together! We sat down together and held our collective breaths as we published our very first blog post on October 12, 2014. (It’s not much of a post; really just a welcome and brief introduction, but it was the start of something wonderful!) This first year has been pretty incredible for both of us: in addition to our wedding and becoming debt free, this little blog has grown beyond our wildest dreams.
I can still vividly remember when Maria proposed the idea of both of us starting a blog together. It was in the early summer of 2014. We were enjoying a quiet day on the patio at my old house. Not long before that, Maria had posted on Kinder Craze about telling her students that she was going to get married. The post was surprisingly popular, despite the fact that it was personal and not teaching related. That gave Maria the idea that we ought to have our a blog for us to share more personal details from our lives, like planning for the wedding, buying a house, and so on.
I already had an interest in blogging, so Maria knew I would probably be open to the idea of us blogging together. My blog, Spare Time Science launched in January of 2013, right around the time Maria and I started dating. I was more than just willing to write personal blog with Maria – I really liked the idea of us working on a project together. I thought it would be something good for our relationship.
So, to celebrate our wonderful first year, let’s take a look at some of the highlights and things we’ve learned:
We Got Married!
Of course this is at the top of the list! This is best thing I’ve ever done. Our wedding was so wonderful. I can’t even describe it. When I think back about that day, it still seems kind of surreal. We (and by we, I really mean Maria) have a whole series called Wedding Wednesday dedicated to different aspects of our gorgeous wedding and how we did it.
We Paid Off my Student Loans
This was amazing. It was such a weight off our shoulders. Before I met Maria and she introduced me to Dave Ramsey, I thought it would have taken me until I was in my 50’s to pay my loans off. Instead, we are now completely debt-free and saving up for a down payment on our first house. Money has stopped being a big worry in my life and it’s great.
You Really Love Stitch Fix
We blog about a lot of things here on Crazy Together (I mean, it is about our lives together), but you ladies (and I know most of you are ladies) really love reading about Maria’s fixes. Her Stitch Fix posts are continuously among our most popular. And rightfully so; look how stylish she is.
Blogging with Your Spouse is Fun
Did I mention that this is a lot of fun? I mean, it’s a decent bit of work, too, but it’s a heck of a lot of fun. Some of my favorite posts are the ones we had the most fun working on, even if they aren’t very popular. Like the time we went through my closet to donate old (and nerdy) clothes or the time I bought really expensive champagne at Costco without realizing it. Even more fun that both of those: filming our first video. If you haven’t seen it, it was our celebration video for paying off my debt:
And those are just a few of the things we have learned in first year of blogging here on Crazy Together. I’m so glad Maria had this idea and opened that conversation with me all those months ago. My wife has given me a fun and exciting platform for our writing to be read all over the world and I love it. Thank you, dear, and thank you all for coming to see what we have to say.
What’s a party without a little confetti? As you might imagine, it takes many attempts to nail the perfect photo with a camera, tripod and remote. Especially when small bits of paper are flying through the air. We thought you might enjoy a look into the craziness that happens when we try to shoot some photos together for the blog.
This past year has been nothing short of amazing and we cannot wait to see what the next year has in store for Crazy Together!

Thank you!
I know this is a bit random but I keep coming across a photo of a really cute outfit of yours on Pinterest. I LOVE the sweater but can’t seem to find it on your blog. Can you tell me what the brand is and where you got it?

Hi Jessica! I wish I had good news for you. Unfortunately, that’s not an image of me. It’s just an image I put in a blog post. I did a little searching, but the image doesn’t really provide any information. I found it on this website: http://thefashionfoot.com/2015/02/11/10-ways-to-wear-a-flannel-shirt/
I am so pleased that I found this blog. I found it because of StitchFix, but my husband and I also got married this year, bought a house, are planning a baby — but we are also following Dave Ramsey’s plan to get us COMPLETELY out of debt (outside of our mortgage, we are OK with that enormous debt…. lol).
You two seem very much on the same page as us and I love reading about other people who seem to be in similar situations in life. Love the blog. Subscribed.
Happy Birthday, belated! :)
Thank you very much! Your blog is great; 8 years of blogging, congratulations! And congratulations on your wedding! I hope you post some more pictures. Working through all that is daunting, but we all seem to be managing well so far. Good luck with those student loans, I know what a beast those can be. I can’t wait to see your relaunch of your blog!
