Hey there! It’s Rob again. Now that you’ve seen a little of David Kind’s at home try-on program and their stylish frames inside, you’re probably wondering what the rest of the process is like. Well, let me show you! The first thing you need to know is that you can try on 6 pair of David Kind eyeglasses at home risk-free. Their try-on process is completely free (David Kind even pays for the shipping both ways.) With a deal like that, how can you possibly resist trying?
When you visit the David Kind, they guide you through the ordering process step-by-step. First, you need to select your three frames. There are fourteen different styles available for men and twenty different styles for women. You can check out the frames Maria tried on as well as the frames that were in my shipment from David Kind.
You can view more specific information about each pair of frames before you add it to your home try-on set. If you have a narrow face like Maria, you’ll want to be on the lookout for frames labeled “Size: Small.”
Once you’ve finished selecting your three frames, you will be prompted to complete your style profile (you Stitch Fixers out there will know exactly what to do) to help your stylist select three additional frames for you. You provide basic information, a picture (or more), lens options you want, and any other style information. I let my stylist know that I stick with conservative styles as I am a lawyer and I need to be in court and have the right appearance for my clients.
Next, David Kind tells you what your estimated prices will be. These are only estimates for if you do order frames after you receive your home try-on set. The home try-on set itself is totally free.
After that, it’s all the boring shipping information and credit card information.
A few days later, a box will show up on your doorstep.
The glasses come in this awesome cork box. These people at David Kind sure put careful thought into their presentation.
There is a little magnet flap on the front of the box keeping the top down. Lift that up to open your kit to reveal your home try-on frames.
Underneath that envelope are your glasses. It does show up very well, but there is a mirror under the top cover in case you don’t have one handy to see how the frames look while you try them on.
Purchasing instructions are included in the shipment as well.
The home try-on kit also includes a personal message from your stylist about each pair of frames included in the set.
The arms of each pair of glasses are folded around a card for convenient note taking.
Simply turn the card over to provide feedback for your stylist. Here, you can see a few of Maria’s style notes.
You have six days to try on your frames and see what you like, which is a lot more time than the five minutes you get when you buy eyeglasses at a store.
If you decide to order a pair of glasses, you also have to email your prescription to David Kind. They will let you know when they have everything and begin processing your order. Within a couple weeks, you’ll receive another (much smaller) package in the mail containing your new eyeglasses.
Maria and I received both our glasses a couple weeks ago and we love them.
I especially love having the transitions lenses so that I have some shade when driving now. However, we have noticed one issue (which may be a problem broader than just David Kind): light reflects off our lenses with a distinct purple hue. We checked with David Kind and the purple comes from the anti-glare coating. I don’t think it’s much of a problem for most people; it’s just that Maria and I (but especially me since I wear my glasses all the time) are in a lot of photos for our blog. We work around it, but it is not something we had to worry about before. And, frankly, if that’s our only complaint about this great service, we’ll take it.

On a final note, Maria and I would like to express our heartfelt thanks for all of your support. Over the course of the past year, we have learned and grown so much and we are in awe of how quickly our little blog has grown. Some of our giveaway prizes are provided by the brands we work to promote but many of the prizes (including our Stitch Fix gift cards, Dave Ramsey’s FPU and today’s David Kind giveaway) are funded completely out of our own pockets. It’s just our way of saying THANK YOU for your readership and ongoing support.
The ones you chose look great!!
I remember reading about David Kind glasses on another blog some time ago, but wasn’t in the market for a purchase at that time. The timing of your blog and such detailed information came at a perfect time. I would absolutely love to get a new pair of glasses and to have 6 options is a wonderful idea. But my favorite reason for purchasing glasses this way is that I will have an opportunity to ask my family and friends for their input etc. I am so indecisive on simple purchases, so to get glasses that I will wear every day for years is too overwhelming to do on my own! Ha!
I have a question though. I am overdue for an appointment with my optometrist and will do so very soon. When I am done with that appointment, do they give me the results so that I can email those to David Kind (once I have selected the style of glasses I want)?
Glad our post was able to help, Kim! When I went to the optometrist, I just asked for a copy of my prescription as I checked out. They should give it to you, no problem. I scanned that in and emailed it to David Kind. Hope that helps!
