Sometimes my career feels a bit like I lead a double life. Actually, make that a triple life. There’s my kindergarten teaching job, my kindergarten blog and of course, Crazy Together. I adore all three of my jobs, but boy do they keep me busy! Today I am so excited to share a day in my shoes.
When you’re as busy as I am, any ol’ shoes just won’t do. They need to be comfortable so I can run from one place to another without skipping a beat. Shopping for comfortable shoes can be a real time investment as well. Remember when I tried on all those booties to finally find the perfect pair?
Thankfully, all of my too-busy-to-shop-for-shoes prayers have been answered.
Stitch Fix now offers SHOES in addition to clothes and accessories!
To my absolute delight, Stitch Fix has expanded and now carries top brands in women’s shoes. My very first pair of Stitch Fix shoes were a pair of Toms wedges. These are the exact same boots as the black pair I purchased a few months ago. The light tan booties I received from Stitch Fix is a perfect spring alternative to the black pair I have been wearing so often. And I knew for a fact that they would be comfortable enough to keep my feet happy during my usual busy work day. So what does my work day look like? Let me take you along for a day in my new Stitch Fix shoes!
A Day in My Toms Wedge Booties from Stitch Fix
I hit the ground running every single day and it begins the moment I arrive at school. I pulled into the staff parking lot at 7:15 and snapped a quick photo even though it was still pretty dark outside.
Every good day begins with a hot cup of coffee and I sip as much as I can before my students arrive. Once they walk in the door, any remaining coffee sits untouched until they go home.
In between sips, I prepare any last-minute materials for the day and put our schedule for the day on the classroom whiteboard. My students behave so much better when they know what to expect from the day.
My time with my students is basically a whirlwind. While they are out of the room and I have some prep time, I try to use every minute as efficiently as I can. It’s a perfect opportunity to look through my files and plan for the week ahead.
I usually have just enough time to run to the office for a few quick copies. In this case, some pages for our upcoming skip counting unit.
The rest of the morning is just a whirlwind. I dismiss the class at 11:30, hug everyone goodbye, then come back into the classroom to prep and plan ahead for some upcoming activities.
My classroom windows are in desperate need of some seasonal decorations from my students, so I begin by digging through my storage cabinet for a few supplies.
I also need to prep all of the materials for our next stained glass window project. I’ve done this type of project so many times, I have a bin filled with pre-cut tissue paper in a variety of colors. This saves me so much time.
I run around like a crazy person getting everything else in order for the next few days before I finally pull out a few Easter books for some upcoming read-clouds in the classroom.
One last item before I go: looking over my students’ handwriting practice so it will be ready to send home the next day.
When at last my classroom is finally in order and my extra duties for the day are complete, I head back to my car. You may recall that I’m only teaching part-time this year. My 2:10 exit time is pretty much par for the course these days. I’m learning that “part time employment” sounds really good on paper, but is nearly impossible for a teacher to execute.
Luckily, I do get home a few hours earlier than I did when I was in the classroom full-time. When I finally arrive, I am welcomed by the most beautiful sight outside my door. My latest Stitch Fix shipment! I still haven’t peeked at the box, but I’m already excited to blog about it’s contents on April 1.
At this point, it is way past my lunch time and I still haven’t eaten anything. I head to the refrigerator to search for any leftovers that will suffice for a meal. Today’s lunch: leftover refried beans with cheese and an apple. I dine on the sofa while I catch up on my only 20 minutes of TV for the day.
After that, it’s back to work. I head into our home office and get ready to settle in.
But first, an obligatory mirror selfie. I can’t blog about Stitch Fix with taking a quick photo in the mirror. Let’s just ignore the fact that I look like an overgrown six year old today. It was cartoon t-shirt day for my kindergarteners, so I sported my Hello Kitty t-shirt all day long. #teacherfashion
And a quick look at those fantastic Toms booties that came from Stitch Fix. At this point, I have been on my feet for over 8 hours and I’m still feeling great. These are definitely not your average pair of booties.
I worked on the blogs for a few hours. Answering emails, editing photos, drafting a new blog post, the list goes on and on…
With my current “part time” teacher status, I have been taking more time to care for my relationships. Rob and I find ourselves relaxing guilt-free a little more often than we did last year and I try to make more time for family and friends. This was an extra-special day because I met up with one of my best friends for a movie date.
It’s a true friend that willingly lets you make a public display of photographing your feet together near the concession stand at the local movie theater. (Thanks, Nicki!)
After the movie, it was back home to work on the blogs. I love that Stitch Fix sent a comfy pair of Toms my way, but once I’m home for the night, the shoes come off and the yoga pants come on!
After a long day of work (and a little play), I eventually dragged myself into bed around 11:00. It was lights out, until tomorrow, when I hop out of bed and do it all over again!
