At this time of year, many of my favorite bloggers are sharing a Christmas home tour in their little corners of the internet. We have been wanting to share an update on our hour home is coming together and now seemed like an ideal time. Our decor is simple, but bit-by-bit the little condo we are renting is transforming into a space we love. Today we welcome you into our home with open arms for a very simple holiday tour.
Rob and I are saving aggressively for a down payment on a house and our budget doesn’t leave a lot of room for seasonal decor. I was so tempted to purchase Christmas decorations every time I stepped foot into Marshalls, TJ Maxx and HomeGoods. I successfully resisted the urge and made do with what we already owned. Rob has a small pre-lit Christmas tree which we decorated with plastic ornaments I purchased several years ago along with some hand-me-down ornaments from my brother and sister-in-law. The poinsettia plants by the fireplace were all gifts and I love the splash of festive red that they bring into the space.
The only decoration I purchased this year was a few sprigs of silk flowers from Michaels. I paid about $4 for the mixed holiday collection and they add a little charm to our coffee table.
Our dining area has continued to be a sparsely furnished even after we completed the gallery wall. One day I hope to purchase a mirror for this space to breathe a little extra life into it. In the meantime, however, we have been using the holiday cards from our loved ones to brighten things up. I have to say, the cards fit their purpose well and have fit perfectly into our budget.
We have been displaying a few small prints from the wedding on top of the bookshelf that lays behind the dining table. A red table runner and votive holders from my college days added a little holiday cheer beside the Santa statue Rob received from his grandma.
Several of our home decor items came from a local antique shop called The Lamb’s Tail that curates sells unique home items. The old windows and “Native” sign above our sofa came from here, as well as the small wooden ruler box that rests on our coffee table. The owner, Bonnie, always recognizes us when we stop by and we love having a reason to support to small business owners.
Merry Christmas from our home to yours!
