I recently discovered the perfect plaid flannel shirt. It’s heavy enough to keep me warm, incredibly soft and comfortable to wear, has sleeves that are long enough, is tailored to a fit and flare style so it accentuates my curves, and it’s long enough to cover my backside so I can confidently wear it with a pair of leggings.

So where did I find this wonder-shirt? On Amazon! I know … it’s totally crazy and I kind of can’t believe it myself. I have recently discovered that Amazon offers a variety of good quality clothes on the Amazon Fashion segment of the site. As you might expect, there are many obscure items that aren’t really on my shopping list; but there are also some notable gems! You might remember the super-comfy gray bargain booties that I discovered last month. This time around I took a risk and ordered the Ochenta plaid flannel shirt. With over 1,300 customer reviews, I was intrigued! I am so glad I did because this flannel shirt is absolutely perfect. The Ochenta plaid flannel shirt comes in 24 colors. I kept things classic and decided to order the Navy-Red color. If you click any of my links, the Navy Blue color comes up by default. Click around on the other colors until you find Navy-Red if you want the same shirt as me, but I think the Navy Blue is also a great classic plaid.
The one thing you absolutely need to know before ordering an Ochenta plaid flannel shirt for yourself is that you MUST size up significantly. The shirt is manufactured with Asian sizes and if you order your usual size small, medium or large; you will be in for an unpleasant surprise. I read many of the reviews and used the size chart included in the product description to place my order of a size XL. I wasn’t joking when I said to size up. I typically wear a small/medium and the thought of me owning anything above an large sounds crazy, but the size chart was accurate! My XL is a perfect fit!
UPDATE!
It looks like the listing finally switched to traditional US sizes. My own shirt is now listed as a size 4.
With a price of only $24 and an unusual size chart, you may be wondering about the general quality of the shirt. (I certainly was!) I’m happy to share that the plaid lined up perfectly along the buttons.
Let’s talk about a few more details. If you look at the product image on Amazon, you’ll notice that the sleeves are rolled and look very short. They are, in fact, full-length sleeves. I rolled mine up just because I like the look of cuffed sleeves. In the above photo you can see a button on my left elbow. The shirt actually has a few tabs sewn into the inside of the sleeves that you can use to roll the sleeves up past your elbow and use the exterior buttons to hold the rolled sleeves in place. It’s not a look that fits my style, but that’s why the shirt looks so different on me than it does in the product image on Amazon.
I also really love the slightly flared hemline and the length of the shirt, but once again you have options. There are two additional tabs sewn into the sides of the shirt that you can use to shorten the top and create a ruched look around the waist. (There are also buttons on the exterior side seams to hold the tabs in place.) The flared silhouette exists to accommodate the tabbed sides so that the shirt won’t pull too tightly and still look flattering if worn the alternative way. I’m telling you: this really is the perfect plaid flannel shirt.
Completing the Outfit: Pants, Boots and Accessories
I know how much you love outfit details and I’m happy to share that every single item I am wearing in this photo an also be purchased on Amazon. Crazy, right? I’m telling you, there is a lot of good stuff on Amazon Fashion if you know where to look!
I’m wearing a basic pair of Hue cotton leggings and a new pair black riding boots with my perfect plaid flannel shirt.
You may remember that I tried on some black over-the-knee boots before Christmas and wore them in my December Stitch Fix post. I loved those boots but it was really difficult to slide my foot into them (even with the help of a shoe horn) and I was worried that I would destroy the heel structure of those boots within a few months. I begrudgingly returned that pair of boots and have been on the search for a new pair of black boots to replace my pleather ones that are beginning to fall apart. I was so happy to discover the Jamison black leather Naturalizer boots on Amazon!
This new pair of boots is a perfect fit, have a flattering shaft height for my long legs and the price is right! I originally tried on the standard width shoes (with a very fair price of $119). While the boots were right size, they fit a little too snug across the top of my foot. So I shipped that pair back and ordered the same size in a wide width. They fit like a dream and the wide style is only $80. Unlike the standard width, the wide pair are not available through Prime, but if I’m saving $40 for this style, I’ll gladly pay a few extra dollars for shipping.
My accessories are also available on Amazon. I wore my Kendra Scott Elisa Necklace in Platinum Drusy and my black Chelsey Fossil Watch.
From head to toe, this outfit was completely perfect. And the prices? Just right!
Ochenta plaid flannel shirt – size XL – $23.99
Hue basic cotton leggings – size small – $22.90
Naaturalizer Jamison riding boots – size 8.5C/D – $79.95
Chelsey Watch from Fossil – $108.00
Platinum Drusy Elisa Necklace from Kendra Scott – $65.00
The Perfect Plaid Flannel Shirt for a Spring Transition
The Ochenta plaid shirt comes in 24 colors and I’m currently crushing on this pink and blue plaid version. I’m getting anxious for spring to arrive and I love the soft colors. They don’t currently have my size so I will just have to stalk Amazon and hope that they restock soon!
You spoke, we listened!
You may recall that Rob and I posted a survey at the beginning of January asking our readers to share their thoughts about our little blog. We wanted to know what kind of posts you love the most, what kind of posts you wouldn’t mind seeing less of and any other suggestions you had to offer. We were pleasantly surprised by your overwhelming response! Thank you so much for all of the kind words and gentle suggestions that you shared. We noticed that many readers wanted to see budget-friendly fashion suggestions and items that I purchase outside of Stitch Fix. The ankle boot post that I shared last month and today’s post were both written with that goal in mind and I would love to hear your feedback in the comments. Rob and I write every post with you in mind and we want to make sure that the content is as fun for you to read as it is for us to write!
We also noticed that you wanted to read more personal posts about the two of us. We’ve been sprinkling a few more of those into our content calendar too and can’t wait to share our adventures from Nashville and the Dave Ramsey show with you next week. Stay tuned!

Maria,
I thoroughly enjoy the stories, style, and maturity the two of you share. The articles on being debt- free are inspiring. Your taste in clothes is exceptional and the wedding was perfection. I would like some tips on how to put outfits together. I have an array of colors and styles in my closet but making them work together is not easy. Also, if you find vintage pieces or reproductions ( like your wedding style) for decorating a home please share where to buy them!
Best to you both…Susan
