Now that spring has arrived, I’m happy to tuck away my heavy winter coats and reach for lighter layering pieces. Michigan never has a shortage of April showers and it’s nice to have a water-resistant jacket in the mix. I recently discovered a beautiful blush pink spring rain jacket from Michael Kors at Nordstrom Rack and I can already tell that it will be my new go-to jacket when I head out the door for the day.

I’m not sure if it’s because I’m getting older, or because motherhood has taught me to seek simplicity in every aspect of my daily life, or if my taste has just evolved over time, but my bright-color loving heart has slowly shifted to a love of classic neutrals. As time goes on, I find myself replacing the once-vivid items in my closet with simple pieces that effortlessly mix and match with one another.
This Michael Kors spring rain jacket is a great addition to my wardrobe because the soft blush color serves as a perfect complement to all of my neutral clothes, while offering a subtle pop of color.
On this particular wet spring day, I sported a classic long-sleeve striped blouse, my black J. Crew Any Day pants, and a pair of black duck boots (mine are Sam Edelman, but there’s a great similar pair of Sorel boots here.)
Accessorizing for the day was a cinch because I also keep a pared-down jewelry collection. I find that my silver Kate Spade watch, a chunky statement necklace (similar here for an amazing price), and some Kendra Scott bangles always gets the job done. The bangles are various mixed metals, which makes it easy for me to accessorize with the silver watch and gold tones in my necklace.
If you visit the blog often, you probably know that I am all about my monthly budget. Living on a budget doesn’t prevent me from owning nice, expensive things. Rather, it just helps me to acquire them responsibly (either by saving or asking for gift cards to help me add a few select high-end pieces to my closet). I was able to purchase a Kate Spade bag (similar here) with store credit and I was careful to select a color that would coordinate with all of my work and weekend clothes. I adore this bag and always get a ton of compliments on it!
