Hello and Happy New Year! We’ve had a few crazy months at home as we adjusted to life with a baby and a toddler to boot. Now that the New Year is here and Harvey is getting a little bigger (he will be three months old tomorrow), it’s the perfect time to reset and get back into the swing of things – starting with an all-new style box review on the blog. Last month, I shared my first post-baby Stitch Fix shipment and I’m excited to let you see the postpartum Trunk Club box that came my way. I tried on all sorts of clothes this month: from dressy to casual and budget-friendly to expensive, so there’s something for every budget. This month’s post is extra fun for the budget because several of the items in my review are currently marked down 30-50% thanks to Nordstrom’s half-yearly sale. Keep reading for the full review!
This post contains affiliate links and my Trunk Club referral link. We receive a small commission and/or credit each time someone makes a purchase or signs up for Trunk Club with one of our links, which helps to support the blog so we can keep sharing fresh content with you on the first of the month. We are always incredibly thankful for your support of the blog and hope that you enjoy this month’s postpartum Trunk Club review!
It’s funny because Erika Christine came to the house and shot these photos a few weeks ago while I was still waking up for an hour and a half to feed Harvey every night and I’m struck by how incredibly exhausted I look in all of these photos. Thankfully, Harvey’s sleep habits have changed significantly and he now sleeps through the night! Now if we can just get a handle on Dessa’s sleep schedule, all will be well in our little world. But that’s another blog post for another day. I’ll give you a second to admire the little baby cuteness, then you can scroll down to learn a little about Trunk Club and check out the review.
How Trunk Club Works
There are so many online styling services available right now, it can be a little tricky to keep them all straight so here’s what you need to know about Trunk Club:
- Trunk Club is a personal styling service for Men and Women.
- Trunk Club is a branch of Nordstrom, which means that all of the styles are available at Nordstrom.com. You can redeem Nordstrom gift cards during checkout at trunkclub.com or in the Trunk Club app. Even better yet, Nordy club members can earn rewards each time a Trunk Club purchase is made.
- Like most styling services, there is a fee to get started. In this case, customers pay a $25 styling fee right before the Trunk ships, which will automatically be deducted from the price of any items purchased during checkout. Shipping and returns are free.
- Once your Trunk arrives, it will contain 10-12 items hand-picked for you. Customers have 5 days to try everything on and checkout via trunkclub.com or the Trunk Club app.
- My favorite thing about Trunk Club is that they honor Nordstrom sale prices! If an item in your Trunk is on sale at Nordstrom, the sale price will be reflected on the item in your Trunk. They also price match Nordstrom prices for 14 days after your purchase (just in case the item goes on sale after you check out from Trunk Club). This month’s Trunk Club review is loaded with items that are currently on sale.
- Another amazing Trunk Club feature that sets them apart from the competition is that your stylist will provide a preview of your trunk before it ships. At that point, you can review each item in your Trunk and choose to keep the items or have them removed from your Trunk. You can also opt to cancel the Trunk before it ships and save the $25 styling fee. Even if you choose to keep your Trunk, you can request that your stylist add a few more surprise items to your Trunk when it arrives.
Now that you’re all caught up on how Trunk Club works, take a peek at what came in my postpartum Trunk Club box this month.
Caslon Turtleneck Sweater
The first item I grabbed from my Trunk Club box was a cozy, light gray Caslon Turtleneck Sweater ($79). The sweater was thick, warm, and incredibly soft. I was seriously tempted to keep it because it’s the kind of sweater that’s great to throw on during a particularly cold winter day. I ultimately decided to send it back because the price point was a little high and I thought the thick turtleneck would annoy me if I wasn’t in the right mood for it. In all honesty, though, I’m currently pretty tired and looking at these photos is making me wonder why on earth I would return something so incredibly warm and cozy.
Marc Fisher LTD Alva Bootie
If you thought the boots in the photo above don’t quite seem like my style, you are absolutely correct. The black Marc Fisher LTD Alva Bootie also came in my postpartum Trunk Club box and I figured there wasn’t any harm in trying them on. For the most part, that was true. Except that the booties were really tight and uncomfortable. Not only that, but they were incredibly difficult to pull off my feet when I was done trying them on. With a price point of $199.95, it seemed highly unlikely that I would keep the Alva Bootie, but once I tried the boots on, I was certain that they were going right back to Trunk Club. I’ve never been the type to sacrifice foot comfort for a pretty pair of shoes, but if YOU are, then you might love these booties. They were pretty stunning to see.
Halogen Crewneck Cashmere Sweater
The next item I tried on was a navy blue Halogen Crewneck Cashmere Sweater. Now, this sweater had a lot to offer. It was warm, lightweight, and (thanks to the cashmere) incredibly soft. It was the kind of sweater that could be dressed up or down for weekend errands or a nice dinner out. I opted to style the sweater with a pair of skinny jeans, brown suede booties, and my dainty gold Kendra Scott necklace.
If the Halogen Crewneck Cashmere Sweater was nice, the price point was even nicer. The sweater has a regular price of $98 but is currently marked down to $65.90. That’s 33% off! I was really tempted to keep the cashmere sweater. The only thing holding me back was the color. I simply don’t wear navy blue tops and sweaters very often because it always feels like so much blue when they are worn with a pair of jeans.
I ultimately decided to return the navy blue Halogen Crewneck Cashmere Sweater, but I have my eye on the pink, gray, and black colors. You can click to shop any of my favorite colors below or check out all 13 colors available on the Nordstrom website.
Madewell Whisper Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tee
Life as a mother of two small children has really highlighted my closet’s need for easy-care basic items, like the Madewell Whisper Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tee that also came in my postpartum Trunk Club box. I realize I kept a basic black t-shirt from my Stitch Fix box last month, but I’ve been getting so much use from that top and would happily add another one to my closet.
I tried on the Madewell Whisper Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tee with a pair of skinny jeans and my Ugg Sammy Slip-On Sneakers (which are currently discounted 25% – now is a great time to shop!) As a busy mom, I’ve found that I just can’t go wrong with basic pieces and the Madewell top was a definite keeper. Even better, the Madewell Tee is on sale for only $15.60.
BP Speckled Fringe Trim Muffler
I can’t get enough warm cozy layers right now so and I was so excited to preview my Trunk and see the BP Speckled Fringe Trim Muffler that was coming my way. The pink scarf was thick, warm, and soft. I’ll admit that it was a little more scarf than I bargained for, but it was easy to style with the Madewell Whisper Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tee, some skinny jeans and a tan cardigan.
A scarf that thick can be hard to wear while juggling a baby in my arms, so I decided to send it back just for the sake of practicality, even though I really loved the BP Speckled Fringe Trim Muffler. If you have your eye on it, act fast because the scarf is currently marked down 50% from $35 to $17.50! I linked all of the colors for you below. Click on your favorite to start shopping.
Steve Madden Feather Loafer Flat
Did you notice the cute flats I was wearing in the outfit I styled with the BP Speckled Fringe Trim Muffler? A pair of black Steve Madden Feather Loafer Flats also came in my Trunk this month. I loved the flats immediately and crossed my fingers hoping that they would be comfortable when I slipped them on.
The Steve Madden Feather Loafer Flats were a nice compromise between my leather matte black Tieks ballet flats and black fabric Rothy’s Points and I absolutely loved the polished, casual look. Unfortunately, they weren’t as comfortable as either my Tieks or Rothy’s. My toes felt very squished and I knew I wouldn’t be able to wear them for any length of time.
If you like the shoes, I do have hopeful news to share with you, though! I just looked at the Steve Madden Feather Loafer Flats product description and they recommend ordering a half size up. My stylist sent the flats in my usual size and I’m very curious to see if a slightly larger size would be more comfortable.
Topshop Pointelle Detail Crewneck Sweater
My stylist also sent a cream Topshop Pointelle Detail Crewneck Sweater in my postpartum Trunk Club box. Some people look great in sweaters that are on the short side, but this cut of sweater always looks incredibly boxy on me. I personally don’t think it’s very flattering.
The Topshop Pointelle Detail Crewneck Sweater wasn’t quite my style, but it IS on marked down 50% right now (down from $68 on sale for $33.99) so it just might be a great buy for you.
Good American Good Legs Ankle Skinny Jeans
Even the jeans I styled with the Topshop Pointelle Detail Crewneck Sweater came in my Trunk Club box. With a price tag of $139, I had high hopes for the Good American Good Legs Ankle Skinny Jeans when I tried them on. The jeans looked nice, but they didn’t have the same comfortable stretch that has become a requirement any time I wear denim. These jeans were also a little bit shorter than I prefer to wear.
The Good American Good Legs Ankle Skinny Jeans were ok, but certainly not worth $139 and went right back to Trunk Club. Sadly, the best thing about this entire outfit was the comfy pair of spotted Rothy’s loafers that I already owned. (Find out why I love my Rothy’s in this blog post.)
Chelsea 28 Open Front Long Cardigan
Ever since Harvey was born, I have been living in cardigans and I was so excited to try on the gray Chelsea 28 Open Front Long Cardigan that came in my Trunk Club box this month. There was just one problem. It was huge on me. I felt like I was drowning in the sweater. The Nordstrom website says that the cardigan fits true to size, but I would argue that this one runs a little big. My stylist sent a medium and it was much larger than I am comfortable wearing, but I think a small (or even an extra small) would be a much better fit.
I had to laugh when I tried the cardigan on because every time I put on a roomy cardigan that overwhelms my frame, my photographer Erika is guaranteed to say how much she loves the sweater because it looks so cozy. The Chelsea 28 Open Front Long Cardigan was no exception and it immediately caught Erika’s eye. If you are like Erika and love a cozy, oversized cardigan, grab this one fast. It’s currently on sale for $53.40 (down 40% from the regular price of $89).
Nordstrom Tissueweight Wool & Cashmere Scarf
I don’t know about you, but I always love accessorizing with a good scarf during cooler months. The gray Tissueweight Wool & Cashmere Scarf that came in my postpartum Trunk Club box was gorgeous.
I could tell right away that this wasn’t the typical cozy up scarf that I’ve grown accustomed to. Rather, it felt more like the kind of scarf a woman would wear in a professional workplace setting. I had fun styling it with a casual knit blazer, white blouse, skinny jeans and my black Point Rothy’s (which were SO much more comfortable than the Steve Madden slip-on shoes). This was a great outfit, I just didn’t need this particular scarf (especially not one with a $99 price tag) so it went back to Trunk Club.
Patagonia Los Gatos Fleece Jacket
Things took a comfortable turn during my Trunk Club try-on when I wore the super-soft Patagonia Los Gatos Fleece Jacket that came in my Trunk. There wasn’t any doubt that the Patagonia jacket was warm and cozy.
I wore the Patagonia Los Gatos Fleece Jacket with a graphic tee, some skinny jeans, and my tall Hunter boots. (The cute toddler is an optional accessory for any mom with young children at home.) I liked the jacket and really appreciated how soft it was, but I couldn’t envision myself wearing it much during the winter. The fleece is perfect for being outdoors on a fall day and I’m sure could also be worn indoors on a cold winter day, but I know I would always prefer to layer up in in the house with a sweater than a zip-up jacket – which meant that the $129 fleece jacket was going back to Trunk Club.
Alo High Waist Moto 7/8 Leggings
Moto leggings are the kind of pants that I always admire on other women and wonder if I could pull off with my own style. I was anxious to give the look a try when I saw that my stylist sent a pair of Alo High Waist Moto 7/8 Leggings in my postpartum Trunk Club box. Even the sale price of these particular moto leggings is a bit high (currently marked down 30% from $114 to $79.80), but that didn’t stop me from trying them on.
The leggings were certainly on-trend but were a little too edgy for my style. I just didn’t feel like myself wearing them, which is probably for the best considering the price tag. I’ve been wearing my Spanx Look at Me Now Leggings at least 4 days a week since Harvey was born and they are still my favorite pair of compression leggings. If you’re like me and not quite ready to embrace the moto legging trend, I highly recommend giving the Spanx leggings a try.
Postpartum Trunk Club Recap
And there you have it! All twelve items from this month’s postpartum Trunk Club box. I appreciate that my stylist sent such a variety of items my way (from basics to impractical pieces) in an array of price ranges. I especially loved to see so many discounted items in my box this month. But even with all those choices, I still just kept a plain black t-shirt. Next time around, I’ll make a point of requesting only casual items with lower price points.
If you loved any of the items that came in my Trunk this month, you can add them to your closet by clicking any of the images below.

Happy New Year! I loved the gray cardigan on you but I agree that I would go down a size when ordering. Those spotted Rothy’s on you are so cute!! I’m hoping that I can catch a sale to get a pair. By the way, you and Rob were a huge inspiration in my debt free journey. Thank you for all of your financial advice. Now I only have the house to pay off and I’m excited to see if I can pay it off sooner than expected.

Hi Gail and thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! We are right there with you trying to pay off the mortgage and it feels like the world’s LONGEST process. Stay strong!

What a super cute box! I know you didn’t live the cream sweater, but is was absolutely adorable on you! Thank you for always sharing an honest review! Happy New Yeat to you and your sweet family!

Thank you Tirzah! It’s actually better for my wallet if I don’t love anything, but I’m so glad to hear that you really liked the cream sweater!
