This month’s review is a fun one! It has been a few months since I used Trunk Club and I wanted to see how well they handled a maternity Trunk now that I’m 7 months pregnant. Usually, when I order a Trunk, I hold back and reject any items in my preview that are priced too high to be practical. This time around, I decided to ignore prices and see what came my way. In truth, I had a bank of Trunk Club credit from people who had signed up for the service after using one of my reviews. I didn’t want to spend every penny of my credit on high-end items, but I was open to splurging on one or two items that wouldn’t otherwise fit into our budget and I always have fun trying out expensive things to see how the “other half” lives.
You may recall that I did something similar a few years back when I decided to give Stitch Fix Luxe a try. I couldn’t afford to keep everything back then either and it took a lot of self-control to stop myself from trying to keep everything in that shipment. The total price of the items in my Stitch Fix Luxe came to exactly $800, which I thought was crazy at the time, but this month’s Trunk blew that number out of the water with items totaling over $1,600. Unlike Stitch Fix, Trunk Club doesn’t offer an automatic discount just for purchasing a certain number of garments. But I did find good discounts on a few of my favorite items just in case you love them too and are looking for a lower price tag. I can’t wait to show you everything in this month’s Trunk Club review so we are going to jump right in.
This post contains affiliate links and my Trunk Club referral link. We receive a small commission and/or Trunk Club credit (at no additional cost to you) each time someone makes a purchase through one of our links, which helps to support the blog and our family. I sincerely hope you enjoy today’s Trunk Club review.
I’m honestly not sure if it was intentional or a giant coincidence because there were so many accessories and shoes in this month’s Trunk, but all of the items mixed and matched to create simple variations of the same two outfits: a casual layered look that’s perfect for weekending and a boho look with a luxury spin. I’m excited to hear which look was your favorite!
Outfit #1: Casual Weekend Layers
There were so many great items (shoes, jewelry, even a backpack) to mix and match while styling this first outfit. I created several variations of the same basic theme: jeans and a cardigan layered over a white tank. Even for such a simple look, the prices ranged from low to high-end.
Summer Ryder Stripe Cardigan
I was kicking myself for sending back the Summer Ryder Cardigan from Madewell that came in my Trunk a few months back (I wish I would have exchanged the sweater for a size small rather than returning it outright) and I requested that my stylist send the same cardigan my way in a smaller size for this Trunk. Shayna wasn’t able to send the exact same sweater, but she did send a very similar Madewell cardigan my way this time – this time it was an ivory Summer Ryder Stripe Cardigan ($69.50 – currently ON SALE for $49.99 at Madewell.com).
Just as I hoped, this was another great cardigan. I wore the Summer Ryder Stripe Cardigan over my go-to layering combo of an Asos maternity tank on top of a non-maternity tank from Old Navy. I also played up the warm tones of the cream sweater by wearing a gold and white Kendra Scott bracelet and my Romantic Blush Tieks (find out why I love my Tieks in this blog post) and kept things casual with a pair of raw hem maternity jeans.
To be completely honest, I was hoping for a gray sweater, but I didn’t want to regret sending back another great layering sweater. The Summer Ryder Stripe Cardigan was definitely a keeper.

Chelsea Pendant Necklace
I’ve been a huge fan of Kendra Scott jewelry for the past several years. I mostly own simple necklaces and cuff bracelets that add a touch of sparkle to casual and dressy outfits. I own a few different colors of the Elisa necklace, but have been on the hunt for a more delicate gold necklace. I was overjoyed to see that Shayna sent a gorgeous, delicate gold Chelsea Pendant Necklace from Kendra Scott ($75) in my Trunk this month.
The dainty gold necklace added a touch of sparkle to my outfit and was exactly the look I had been searching for. The above photo doesn’t do the necklace justice, so here’s a close-up product photo of the Chelsea necklace. There was no doubt, this was an absolute keeper.
Tilda Nylon Backpack
Things started to get really expensive when I saw the next item that arrived in this month’s Trunk Club shipment. Shayla sent a navy blue Tilda Nylon Backpack from Tory Burch ($248) in my shipment. Even with Trunk Club credit, I was pretty sure this item would be going back, but I couldn’t resist wearing the backpack as an accessory to this outfit.
Shayna knows I have another baby on the way this October and I completely understand why she included the Tilda Nylon Backpack in my Trunk. Backpacks make great diaper bags because they are so easy to wear hands-free and they can be used to store so many necessities. Since this backpack was made of nylon, I am certain it would be easy to wipe clean should a little bit of breast milk or baby formula get spilled on it. The dark navy color would also keep the backpack looking in tip-top shape for a long, long time.
There was so much to love about the Tilda Nylon Backpack but it didn’t feel like the best use of my valuable Trunk Club credit, so I knew that it was going back. What a shame though, because it was a great, classic baby-friendly accessory!
RECREATE THE LOOK
Cushion Bounce Vista Slide Sandal
Now that I find myself seven months pregnant in the middle of summer, I am all about comfortable sandals that are easy to slide on and off my feet. I have a very old pair of Reef sandals that have been my go-to for several years and I recently realized that I’m on the verge of wearing a hole right through the sole. I saw online that Reef had some dressy new styles so I requested that Shayna to include a pair of Reef sandals in my Trunk this month. She delivered and sent a pair of gold Cushion Bounce Vista Slide Sandals ($44.95).
The Cushion Bounce Vista Slide Sandals were cuter than a basic flip-flop and great in theory, but the straps were a little too roomy. I worried about stepping out of them and accidentally tripping, so it was easy to decide that they needed to be returned.
(Please excuse the fact that my feet are in desperate need of a pedicure!)
Sammy Slip-On Sneaker
Shayna also sent a charcoal pair of UGG Sammy Slip-On Sneakers ($109.95) in my Trunk. In the past, I was searching for a great pair of dark, slip-on sneakers and tried on a few different styles thanks to Trunk Club. I was never satisfied with the previous pairs because they always felt too snug across my foot and were such an effort to get my feet into. Not this pair, though! I was pleasantly surprised at how the knit upper of the shoe provided great stretch. These shoes were easy to slide on and off and seemed quite comfortable!
As good as the Sammy Slip-On Sneakers were, I really didn’t need them. My search for a comfortable pair of sneaker slides led me to a pair of black Rothy’s sneakers (find out why I love my Rothy’s in this blog post), which are already in my closet and don’t get a ton of use as it is. The UGG Sammy Slip-On Sneakers were a bit narrow and my feet are slightly swollen from the pregnancy. I knew I wouldn’t actually get around to wearing these until sometime after the baby arrives in October. By then, temperatures would be dropping in Michigan and I would be reaching for warmer shoes to wear. It just wasn’t practical for me to keep the sneakers even though they were very cute and had a lot of potential.

Over the Belly Maternity Skinny Jeans
I was excited to try on a pair of Madewell maternity jeans but the sizing was way off for the black Madewell Over the Belly Maternity Skinny Jeans ($138) that were in my Trunk. When I tried the jeans on, I was swimming in them. I took a look at the size and it wasn’t difficult to tell what was wrong. I usually wear a size 27 and these were a 31! I went ahead and styled the jeans with the existing outfit and added a pair of leopard Rothy’s loafers. I loved the spirit of this outfit, but clearly, this particular size of jeans was all wrong.

Outfit #2: Boho Luxe
Of all the items included in this month’s Trunk Club review, my very favorite pieces were mixed and matched to create a boho look with a high-end twist. There was no way I could afford to keep all of these items (even with my Trunk Club credit) but I had the best time trying everything on to create this look.
Sounds of Summer Off the Shoulder Tunic Top
When I first saw the Sounds of Summer Off the Shoulder Tunic Top from Free People ($168 – get it from Macy’s for 40% off!), I wasn’t sure what to think. I love light-colored neutrals in the summer and the lace details were cute, but this top looked huge. Then I tried it on and fell in love.
I wasn’t in any mood to wear a strapless bra with this off the shoulder top, so I layered a basic non-maternity tank from Old Navy underneath – which also helped with the fact that the Sounds of Summer Off the Shoulder Tunic Top was a little on the sheer side.
I adored this top and was tempted to keep it, but the $168 price tag was too high for me to justify. I probably would have thrown my Trunk Club credit at it if this were my first pregnancy. But I spend these days chasing around a two-year-old and a fancy lace off-the-shoulder top doesn’t exactly fit my lifestyle. It took a lot of self-control for me to send this one back knowing I had enough credit to get it for free, but I know that I made the right choice. Macy’s currently has this the Sounds of Summer Off the Shoulder Tunic Top on sale for $100, which is a far better price. If you get it, I highly recommend sizing down. Shayna sent me a medium and I’m confident that a small would have fit just fine (bump and all!)
Mama Look at Me Now Seamless Maternity Leggings
Now that you know all about that gorgeous lace tunic, I can fill you in on the leggings. I was searching for a great pair of compression-style leggings this past winter and FELL IN LOVE with the Spanx Look at Me Now leggings. I wore them all the time and featured them on the blog often.
I’ve been searching for a better quality pair of maternity leggings because my current pair is slightly sheer. You can imagine my excitement when I saw a pair of Spanx maternity leggings in my Trunk. I tried on the Mama Look at Me Now Seamless Maternity Leggings from Spanx ($78) and they were every bit as good as the non-maternity version. The leggings stayed in place and didn’t have a hint of sheerness to them. They were also very warm (too thick and warm for hot summer weather). The Spanx maternity leggings were great to try on, but there will be plenty of summer heat for the duration of my pregnancy and it didn’t make any sense for me to keep them.

Cubic Zirconia Halo Pendant Necklace
I can’t write about this outfit without mentioning the dainty gold Cubic Zirconia Halo Pendant Necklace from Nordstrom ($55 – marked down to $36 during the Anniversary Sale!) This necklace had a lower price than the Kendra Scott Chelsea necklace that also came in my Trunk. The necklace chain had more of an orange cast than I usually like, but the color complimented the metal tones of my bracelet (similar) and shoes for this outfit, so I didn’t mind.
Speaking of the shoes…
Escape Lux Studded T-Strap Sandal
Shanya also sent a second pair of Reef sandals my way. The black Escape Lux Studded T-Strap Sandal from Reef ($36) was cute, comfortable, and had an unexpected design for Reef footwear. They were also made of rubber – which was a total surprise given how cute they were! My photographer Erika and another friend both commented on how cute these sandals were when they saw me wearing them.
I really wanted to keep the Escape Lux Studded T-Strap Sandal, especially since I knew they would be comfortable to walk in, but my ankles have started to swell, the band across the top of my foot wasn’t adjustable and I knew that it was only a matter of time before my feet became too wide to wear the sandals during my pregnancy.
McGraw Leather Hobo
Remember how I said that this outfit was very luxe and way beyond my lifestyle and budget? This is where the expenses started to add up and I fell even more in love with the items that came in my Trunk. Shayna also sent the most gorgeous black McGraw Leather Hobo from Tory Burch ($398).
I am not in the market for a new black purse – especially not a $400 luxury handbag, but oh my word, this one was so good. The leather was incredibly soft and supple and the shoulder strap was the perfect length for easy transport. Based on the quality of the McGraw Leather Hobo, it’s easy to understand why women love luxury handbags so much.
Blaze 37mm Round Sunglasses
What’s the best accessory to pair with a $400 handbag? A $160 pair of sunglasses! My current sunglasses and will continue to function just fine until Dessa gets a little too excited while trying them on and cost a whopping $13 from Old Navy, so the black Blaze 37mm Round Sunglasses from Ray-Ban ($163) that came in my Trunk were out of the question. They looked great on, though!
Miller Flip Flop
The last item that I tried on from my Trunk was a brown leather pair of Miller Flip Flops from Tory Burch ($198). I have seen these sandals on other women more times than I can count and I love the look of them. I wasn’t sure how comfortable the Miller Flip Flops would be, but I knew they would be the perfect finishing touch for what was quickly becoming a luxury outfit.
Even though they were my usual size, the Miller Flip Flop sandals turned out to be a half size too small. They fit great across the top of my foot, but I found that my heel was hanging off the back of the shoe. I really, really liked these shoes and decided to splurge and put some of my Trunk Club credit toward keeping them, so I requested an exchange in a larger size.
The funny thing is that going up 0.5 size was a perfect fit, but I still haven’t worn these sandals anywhere. Later today, I am going to dig them out from under my bed and at least wear them around the house to make sure that the top of the sandal doesn’t bother my foot after a while. If I change my mind about the shoes and decide that they aren’t right for me after all, I figure I can always sell them in my Poshmark closet.

What I Kept and Returned from my Trunk Club box
I still can’t believe that everything in this month’s Trunk Club review was worth over $1,600. Give Trunk Club a Try
Ready to try Trunk Club, but not sure how it works? Here’s everything you need to know at a glance:
Much like Stitch Fix, Trunk Club is an online styling service that provides styling to men and women. It is owned by Nordstrom, which means that all of the clothes that Trunk Club offers are carried by Nordstrom (and you can pay with your Nordstrom card to earn Notes). Better yet, Trunk Club honors Nordstrom sale prices, which means that you don’t always have to pay full price for the clothes.
You can message your stylist with specific requests and actually preview and provide feedback on your Trunk before it ships. I love this because it gives you the opportunity to cancel any specific items that you don’t like before they ship and request replacement items. You also have the opportunity to cancel the entire Trunk before it ships.
As for the cost, it’s free to sign up and build your Trunk Club style profile. When your Trunk ships, you will be charged a $25 styling fee, which is deducted from the cost of any items you choose to keep from your Trunk. Shipping and returns are free and you will only be charged for the clothes you wish to keep when you check out. The $25 styling fee is waived for Nordstrom cardholders.
You can read more about Trunk Club and the service they provide in this blog post.
