Ok, so the title is a little tongue-in-cheek. Maria and I do not have very green thumbs; as a rule, we prefer plants that tend to be pretty hard to kill through neglect. However, we have been telling each other for the past year or so that we should have an herb garden. We use a lot of fresh herbs when we cook. We usually have to buy big bunches from the store and many of those herbs go bad before we get a chance to use them again. It’s one of the reasons why we registered for the herb keeper from Crate & Barrel.
The other solution to that problem is an herb garden. The plants do not go bad and regrow what you use. While we were at Home Depot the other day for a completely unrelated reason, we decided to finally take the plunge and get started on our herb garden. We bought pots, potting soil, gloves, watering can, cilantro and mint. When we arrived home, Maria got right to the gardening while I got the camera out to document the moment for posterity.
First she added soil.
She sure makes gardening look fun!
Then she added the plants.
A little more soil to complete the pot.
And some water to get the herbs started!
It’s a small herb garden, but we had to start somewhere. We plan to add one more to the collection with a basil plant in the near future. The plants added a homey touch to our balcony, which will be even nicer once we get some patio furniture.
The start of our little herb garden. Do you think we will be able to keep them alive?
