August Stitch Fix Review #39 – Review, Giveaway and LinkUp

August 1, 2016 By Maria Gavin - 27 Comments

I can’t believe it’s already August and time for this teacher to get ready to head back into the classroom. Thank goodness for Stitch Fix! My stylist, Layla, sent some fabulous items to keep me looking my best as I prepare to head back to school. Being a kindergarten teacher never looked so fashionable. Of course, the styles are pretty great for non-teachers, too. You may have caught my sneak peek video on Facebook earlier this month. I’m so excited to share a complete review of what arrived in my fix this month with you.

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. I earn a small commission each time someone makes a purchase through one of my links, which helps to support the blog so I can continue sharing this type of content with you. If you’re new to Stitch Fix, you can sign up using my referral link (included throughout this post). I only recommend brands and services that I truly love and I adore Stitch Fix. I’ve never dressed better or had a more convenient shopping experience since I became a faithful Stitch Fix customer. We can talk more about that later – right after I share my August Stitch Fix review. Let’s dive right in.

Lideea Dress from Donna Morgan

As soon as I laid eyes on the Lideea Dress from Donna Morgan ($158) that Layla included in my fix, I knew I had to try it on! A floral dress with pockets that’s long enough to actually touch my knees is exactly my style. The dress was a great fit and the cool, lightweight fabric is perfect for summer.

I also adore the wide band of navy blue fabric that runs along the hemline. This was such a fun detail that gives the dress a special touch. Since the dress carried a classic style, all I added was a blue and gold statement necklace (similar here and here), a few simple bracelets, and nude heels (similar) to complete the look. Perfection.

The floral print was very sweet and I was a little surprised to see a casual coordinating print on the back of the dress. The stripes didn’t have as much charm as the primary dress fabric and I wasn’t a huge fan, but I did like the idea of a different pattern in the back. It was still an interesting detail, even if it wasn’t my favorite print.

As you probably already know, I like my clothes to be multi-functional. I’m always looking for ways that I can dress pieces up or down for a variety of occasions. This dress was long enough to wear to school, but it was a little too dressy for a regular school day. To remedy the problem, I added a dark wash denim jacket from Old Navy (a staple for any woman’s closet). The jacket instantly transformed the dress into something a little less fancy. Mission accomplished.

Yes, this was definitely a keeper! It’s so rare to find a dress that touches my knees, there was no way I was going to send it back.

Update! As I was working on this post, I noticed that the dress is currently on major clearance at Lord & Taylor. They only have a few sizes available, but you might want to check it out if you love it as much as I do.

Lynden Satchel from Urban Expressions

I had recently pinned a gorgeous mint green zipper satchel from Urban Expressions to my style board and begged Layla to please send that purse my way. She didn’t send the exact handbag that I requested, but the mint Lynden Satchel from Urban Expressions ($58) that Layla included in my fix was an excellent substitute.

The bag has a few zipper details along the sizes and is large enough to hold all of my essentials on the go.

It also helped that the purse coordinated so well with the dress I had just fallen in love with!

This bag was also a keeper. So far my fix was off to a great start!

Catarina Knit Top from Papermoon

I’ve recently become downright obsessed with the color mint and somehow Layla managed to tune right into all of my warm, fuzzy feelings for the cool summer color. My eyes lit up when I saw the mint stripped Catarina Knit Top from Papermoon ($44) that she also included in my fix.  I already own many beautiful Stitch Fix blouses, but my wardrobe is in need of more classic casual tops. I asked Layla to please send some cotton tops with sleeves my way and I was overjoyed to see that she could accommodate my request.

I kept the look clean and simple and styled the top with white ankle pants (similar), white sandals, a basic layering tank, my bargain statement necklace and my Kate Spade watch.

I also added my denim jacket and the Lynden Satchel from Urban Expressions. This entire look makes my teacher heart so happy. It’s the perfect preppy style.

Just like the other two items I had already tried on, I quickly decided to keep the Catarina Knit Top.

My 38th Stitch Fix shipment was already off to such a fabulous start. My closet just got a whole lot more minty and Layla had included two bright pieces to round it out with some summer vibrance. It’s too bad the bold red pants were a no go because I absolutely love how you styled them with the floral top and white denim jacket! Thanks for hosting the link-up!

Thank you, Kim! I WISH I were the kind of person that could confidently rock a pair of bright red pants, but they were so not me. Sigh.

Maria, have you tried LuLaRoe? Their Amelia & Nicole dresses seem like a perfect fit with your style and your needs as a teacher. The Amelia is a pocket dress too! If you aren’t familiar & want to check it out, the last (most recent) Stitch Fix post on my blog includes links to a very good friend’s LuLaRoe shop on Facebook. I love LLR and dropped SF for it. But, as always, you are having great luck with SF and another total home run for Layla, too! -Miranda

      Hi Miranda,
I have heard many good things about LuLaRoe but haven’t tried them yet. Thank you for letting me know where to look to find out more! And I agree that Layla outdid herself once again!

Aw, thank you Christine! Sometimes I forget how great the clothes are in my closet. The one upside to being a fashion blogger is that I find myself digging in my closet often and rediscovering favorite items that I had forgotten about.

Great fix! Loved everything on you but agree with your choices. Do you have any other suggestions for the dark denim jacket and statement necklace or do you think they will be back in stock? They seem like great staple pieces. TIA

Oh no! I can’t believe those items are out of stock. I’ll be on the lookout for a similar statement necklace. I like to mix in current shoes and accessories because I get so many questions about where I purchase those items. I did some searching for denim jackets and Old Navy looks like they have a few options in stock. Both of these are affiliate links.

This one looks VERY similar to my dark denim jacket (if not the exact same): http://rstyle.me/n/bwgpfabjbcf
This one is a lighter wash, but I LOVE that it is cropped. I wish my jacket was cropped a bit shorter so it will look nicer with a fit & flare dress: http://rstyle.me/n/bwgphebjbcf

      Hopefully that helps!

You get such awesome fixes! Was quite jealous to see your lovely short sleeved tops. I requested a summer tops only fix and pinned a lot of stitch fix items and my stylist did not deliver. :( love reading your reviews!

Oh no, Samantha. That is such a bummer! I was very pleased to see the short sleeved tops as well and I’m sad to hear that you didn’t receive the items you requested. I have read that their stock is somewhat unpredictable, so I’m sure your stylist did the best she could with the items that were available to her. Still disappointing though!

I’m tall, too, so those longer dresses are always a great find! It’s lovely, and I really like the stripe pattern detail on the back.

That dress is beautiful on you! I love the band of color on you, but I agree about the back. Thank you again for hosting, but again I seem to be having trouble with the back-link. So my post needs your approval – thanks!

The dress is stunning! Definitely my taste too. I am considering purchasing the great deal that you linked. How would you say this dress runs? True to size? I’m typically an 8 in most things but often go for a 10 in dresses. They have an 8 but not a 10 so curious your thoughts on fit.

I see there’s a pink version of the Donna Morgan dress available on 6pm.com right now, if people missed out on the version in your Fix. http://www.6pm.com/donna-morgan-sleeveless-twill-fit-and-flare-with-midi-skirt-tent-multi or search for “8732887”.
