We just wanted to share a quick update to let you all know that we are now officially Mr. and Mrs. Gavin! After a year of planning, Maria and I were finally married yesterday. The wedding ceremony was wonderful, the reception was a blast and the day was perfect.
If you follow us on Instagram, you may have seen that the lead-up to the wedding day was a bit of a rollercoaster as the forecast changed seemingly minute to minute. It has been an unusually rainy spring in our area of Michigan and storms seem likely to pop up almost every day. The 10 day forecast bounced around like crazy. First it was a 50% chance of thunderstorms:
Then it went to a 20% chance of rain, so Maria and I thought we were in the clear:
Then, it suddenly became a 100% chance of thunderstorms and the local weather forecasters were even discussing the possibilities of tornadoes:
We were mentally planning on having a washout for our wedding. My family, Maria’s family, and many of our close family and friends prayed rosaries and placed them outside on bushes in the Catholic tradition of asking Mary, Jesus’ mother, to intercede for good weather.
When Friday dawned, it was cloudy and overcast, but the most rain we felt all day was a couple sprinkles when doing our photoshoot at the first look. That was it. We found out later that the bad weather system never even entered into Michigan. The Blessed Mother was certainly looking out for us.
Even the temperature was cooler and much more comfortable than expected.
Unlike most brides, Maria was praying for cloudy skies all week because they provide ideal lighting for outdoor photos. Her wish came true and our friend Brian from BTW Photography was able to capture many amazing portraits throughout the day.
Today, we basked in the afterglow of our wedding day. We spent the day at home opening presents, working on our new joint budget, and wiping the tears of joy away from Maria’s eyes. We are completely in awe of the fantastic day we shared with our family and friends. Tomorrow, we will attend our nephew’s Baptism and pack for our honeymoon.
We know you want to hear all of the details from our wedding and we plan to share more details in the coming weeks. We can’t wait to show you how we did it!
