Stitch Fix Review #20 + Giveaway

April 7, 2015 By Maria Gavin - 22 Comments

My latest shipment from Stitch Fix arrived just before Easter and I am so excited to share the five pieces of clothing that my personal stylist, Layla, hand-picked just for me. This month’s Stitch Fix review is a fun one because Layla knew that my wedding shower is coming up (this Saturday!) and that I am desperate for new pants since my Whole30 venture shrunk my waistline and left me swimming in all of my old pants. Layla has become an expert on my sizes & personal style preferences and this month’s selections were lovely as usual.

April 2015 Stitch Fix Review

The first item she sent that I immediately gravitated toward was the Bilson Dot Print Pleat Detail Blouse from Daniel Rainn ($68). I already own many Daniel Rainn blouses and each one has been lovelier than the last. This long-sleeved number was no exception.

To start, I experimented by pairing the polka dotted blouse with a pair of dark skinny jeans and my gray clutch from PopBasic. It was so chic and perfect for a casual date night with Rob.

Since I typically gravitate toward a more relaxed style, I changed into a lighter pair of skinny jeans. YES! This outfit was perfectly me.

I loved the drape of the blouse. It was so effortlessly feminine, even when I was going casual.

The next item I tried on was the light pink pair of Patrick Cropped Chino Pants from Level 99 ($108). Even though the color was listed as “light pink”, it looked like more of a soft grayish purple color. Most people would turn up their nose at pastel pants, but the color is perfect for spring so I eagerly tried them on.

Initially, I paired the pants with a sequined tee from Express (one of my favorite tops). I loved how the pants coordinated with the soft shades of the tee.

With all of the pastels, I was beginning to resemble an Easter egg, so I swapped the tee for a sleeveless white eyelet top. This ensemble will be perfect when Michigan heats up this summer.

If you’re like me, you are wondering how the pants look from the back. Because I love you so much, dear readers, I actually turned around for the camera. The fit of these pants was spot-on. They have stretch, but don’t seem like they will sag at all because they are high-waisted. I’m just relieved to have one pair of pants in my closet that I don’t have to constantly hike up or wear with a belt.

My bridal shower is on Saturday and I had asked Layla to keep an eye out for any dresses that I could wear for my shower or any other dressy spring events I have planned. She knows how I am embracing all things feminine right now so she included the Nickole Sleeveless Lace Fit & Flare Dress from BRIXON IVY ($78).

Many women might shy away from wearing a dress in such a solid vibrant color, but not me. I adore the color coral and I have kept many orange and coral items that Layla has sent my way over the past several months. I couldn’t wait to try this dress on.

Let me tell you, it is a total show-stopper. The dress fit perfectly. My personal style is quite modest and I loved that this dress went all the way to my knees (I have long legs) and provides adequate coverage on top.

I will admit that the coral color may be a bit too much for my bridal shower. Fortunately, a very sweet girl whom I am quite close with is making her First Holy Communion in a few weeks. This dress will be perfect to wear on that occasion.

The dress looked great with a mint green statement necklace that I purchased a few years ago. I found a similar necklace on Amazon for a great price!

One of my favorite things about Stitch Fix is that is pushes me out of my comfort zone. My stylist selects items that she knows I will love and occasionally includes an item that she knows I would not normally gravitate toward but that she thinks would look fabulous on me. The Sallie Dress from Uttam ($114) was one of those items.

blue Uttam Sallie Dress from Stitch Fix #stitchfix #fashion

I specifically request that my stylist avoid short shirts and v-necks in my style profile, but Layla included this item saying

“The Uttam Sallie is slightly shorter than you usually love, but the detailing and the fact that it’s for an event and not the classroom swayed me to include it for you. That blue would be amazing for your coloring!”

I always try on every item included in my fix and I appreciated the careful consideration that Layla had put into selecting this piece, so I reluctantly tried it on.

Layla was right! The dress was fabulous. It fit perfectly and was oh-so-feminine.

Despite how beautiful the dress was, I was not quite comfortable with the v-neck or the shorter-than-usual skirt. I decided to return the dress, but felt like a little girl playing dress-up the entire time I had it on. Even when I decide not to keep an item, it’s always fun to try my Stitch Fix clothes on.

The fifth and final item included in this month’s fix was the Izara Honeycomb Print Dress from Taylor ($98).

Like everything else, this dress also fit perfectly. The neckline was very flattering and I didn’t mind that it was a v-neck at all (Layla successfully pushed me out of my comfort level once again.)

I wore the honeycomb dress with gray heels and loved that the length was appropriate for work.

Although the Honeycomb Print dress was very pretty and such a great fit, I decided to send it back. I just didn’t LOVE it and I’m trying really hard these days to only keep the items that I absolutely adore.

Stitch Fix has been such a lifesaver for me. I love to stay stylish and adore getting new clothes, but I am so busy (with wedding planning, teaching, managing two blogs and getting ready to move) that I have no spare time to shop. Instead, I just log in to Stitch Fix and schedule a fix! For a $20 styling fee, my wonderful personal stylist reviews my style profile on the site (which only took 15 minutes to complete) and hand-picks five items just for me based on my sizes and preferences. Shipping is totally free. Once the items arrive, I have 3 days to try them on in the comfort of my home. I love that I can mix the pieces with items that I already own to know exactly what will (or will not) work for me. I keep the items I want, return all of the other items in the pre-paid shipping envelope that is also included in my fix, and check out online. Returns are also free. PLUS, my $20 styling fee is automatically deducted from the price of any items I keep. The best part is that Stitch Fix offers a Buy All Discount, which means that I automatically save 25% on my entire order if I choose to keep everything in my fix.

April 2015 Stitch Fix Review

Crazy Together fans often ask about the price of the clothes. Many of the items cost $65 or less. You get to set your own price limits for blouses, pants, skirts and dresses when you create your style profile. You probably noticed that I had higher price tags on all of my garments. This is because I allow my stylist to send items that are a bit more expensive. I don’t want the price tag to be the reason I miss out on something beautiful and perfect for me.

Maria- what a great fix! I love all the items you picked to keep. While the coral dress is not my style, I love the cut and it looks terrific on you! I understand why you are returning the last two dresses. If I have learned anything about Stitich Fix, try everything on and don’t feel obligated to keep anything you don’t love! Thanks for sharing!

I love reading your reviews! That coral dress is BEAUTIFUL! I’m pinning it to my board because it’s modest enough for the classroom and I have long legs also do it’s difficult finding dresses the right length. Thanks so much for sharing!

Everything looked so pretty on you. The blue color looked gorgeous, but you’re right that the fit wasn’t spot on and you have to feel comfortable. It’s a pretty color on you though. I absolutely love the coral with the turquoise necklace.

Thank you Megan! I purchased the turquoise necklace on a whim last summer and I’m so glad I did! It doesn’t coordinate with much, but it looks great with the coral.

I highly recommend giving coral a try. A few years ago I read that it is a universally flattering color and I must say, that claim holds true for me!

I look forward to your stitch fix posts, Maria! I love your fixes so much (and the way your style them that I have requested the same stylist. I hope that doesn’t come off as creepy – I just really love that she gets feminine pieces! We have slightly different styles (I like unstructured too) – so I am excited to see what she does for my 3rd fix! The coral dress is gorgeous on you (I liked everything, actually) – I don’t know if it’s too much for your bridal shower. Unless you were wanting a white dress, it’s your day to stand out! Thanks again for sharing your fixes with us!

Can I ask where you got that adorable blue and gold belt your paired with the navy dress? I absolutely love it and have a navy dress myself that would really be kicked up a notch with something like that belt! Thank you!
