Life with a baby has changed our hearts and our home in ways we never could have imagined and this year our family’s Easter celebration was magical. It wasn’t anything extravagant (in fact, Easter this year was super simple), but we treasured every moment of the day and we couldn’t resist sharing a few glimpses of Dessa’s first Easter with you. Every day and season with Dessa brings new joy and excitement. We thought the magic of Christmas would be hard to top, but now that Dessa is a little bit bigger, more active, and more social, the Easter holiday felt even more special!

Our Easter morning was off to an early start when Dessa awoke at 5:45am. The Easter Bunny was running a little behind schedule, so we made plans for him to stop by a few hours later while Dessa was napping. The Easter Bunny knows that we are trying to keep things simple around here, so he sprinkled a few plastic eggs on the living room floor. Little Miss was so excited to see the bright eggs when she woke up from her nap! Each egg contained a single puff cereal treat (Dessa’s favorite snack!) Shaking the eggs and eating the treat inside meant double the fun for our baby girl.
I’m not sure who loved the egg hunt more: Dessa or us!
How precious is she in those bunny pajamas?!?
After Dessa had thoroughly enjoyed her Easter egg hunt, it was time to get dressed and see what else the Easter Bunny had brought her way.
Once again, the Bunny kept things simple and delivered a small basket with four surprises for Dessa: a container of puffs, some fun blocks to stack up, the classic children’s book Pat the Bunny (because … Easter!) and some bubbles.
I love this photo because it’s the first time I have been able to capture ALL FOUR of Dessa’s teeth on camera. Look how happy she is!
After all the Easter Bunny fun, we had just enough time to snap a quick family selfie before heading out the door for Easter Mass. Trying to shoot a family photo with a tripod, a camera self-timer, and a baby is always interesting – and so are the outtakes!
We didn’t take any photos at church, but it was our first time in the cry room. Not because Dessa was fussy or causing a scene, but because we arrived JUST BARELY ON TIME. And the noon Easter Mass was packed to the brim with standing room only. Thankfully, there were plenty of empty seats in the cry room – which revealed a completely different world of attending Mass that I had never experienced before. Dessa has always been a good baby at church and Easter Sunday was no exception. She was perfect during all of Mass and she loved watching the other boys and girls that made a visit to the cry room.
After Mass, our next stop was to visit Dessa’s great-grandma and namesake for some Easter giggles and kisses. Dessa LOVES spending time with her Great Grandma Odessa and my eyes water when I see photos of them together.
After a whirlwind of a day, we got back in the car and headed across town to spend the rest of the day with Rob’s family. It was a little crazy, but also wonderful. There were a few more Easter surprises for our little one when we arrived, but the books and gifts weren’t nearly as fun as her big cousins. Dessa adores spending time with them and it was so nice to hang out and catch up with our family.
Once everyone was completely exhausted, we packed into the car and brought our very sleepy girl home for one last bottle, a few snuggles, and a restful night of sleep. It was the best Easter that either of us can remember.
On one final note, kudos to Rob for picking out Dessa’s Easter dress a few months back. He knows I like to keep her wardrobe simple with pink, white and gray clothes that mix and match and he thought it would be a cute dress for spring. After weeks of searching for something floral and coming up empty, we tried on the bunny dress and it was perfect with some white tights and eyelet tennis shoes. Her Zoey bow from ZoZu Baby was just the icing on the cake!
