Bombfell: Stitch Fix for Guys

December 26, 2015 By Rob Gavin - 2 Comments

Bombfell: Stitch Fix for Men

I’ve always been jealous of Maria and her Stitch Fix. She gets new clothes all the time without having to go to the store. I have an aversion to clothes shopping; I do everything I can to avoid it. That’s why I’ve decided to give Bombfell a try. What is Bombfell? Basically, it’s Stitch Fix for guys.

Bombfell: Stitch Fix for Guys

If you’ve read any of Maria’s Stitch Fix posts, you already know a little about Bombfell works. They are a subscription clothing company. You provide Bombfell with information about you, and they send you a box with three to five items of clothing for you to try on at home for free. You have ten days to try it on (bet you Stitch Fixers are jealous about those ten days, huh?). You keep what you want and send back what you don’t want. There also isn’t a styling fee associated with the service. It’s totally free to try. You just have to pay for any clothes that you decide to keep.

Bombfell Stitch Fix for Guys

Quick confession: I actually tried out Bombfell a few years ago (right around the time that Maria became hooked on Stitch Fix), but was not very impressed. Now that Maria and I have settled in to our new lives together, I decided it was time to give it another try. And let me tell you, they have really stepped up their game in the few years since I’ve tried them.

I bet you’re curious to see what came in my first Bombfell shipment, so let’s get right into it!

Striped Jersey Beach Short Sleeve Polo by Faherty

First up was the Striped Jersey Beach Short Sleeve Polo by Faherty ($98).

This was a pretty basic polo. I thought it was pretty good, but for $98, it just wasn’t worth it. This one went back to Bombfell.

Tailor Vintage Reversible Plaid Long Sleeve Shirt

The next item I received in my shipment was the Reversible Plaid Long Sleeve Shirt from Tailor Vintage ($99).

I must say, I’ve never seen a reversible shirt before. Maria and I were very intrigued at how it would look. The first side was exactly what you would expect.

Before we go much further, I want to say something about taking selfies in the mirror. It is a lot harder than I expected. I already knew Maria did a great job taking her Stitch Fix photos, but I have so much more respect for her efforts now than I ever did. After what seemed like 50 photos (maybe it was actually more), I was starting to get loopy and started messing around with the camera a bit.

Having worked the silliness out of my system, I reversed the shirt to see how the other side looked.

I was not a huge fan of the pattern of the other side of the shirt. Also, the collar did not really want to cooperate with the flipping. It was used to laying the other way and it kept wanting to curl up at the corners when the shirt was reversed. It might have been better the shirt had internal collar stays, but it did not. With those thoughts in mind, I decided to send the reversible shirt back.

Cooper Jones Vintage Honeycomb Crew Neck Sweater

Next up was the Vintage Honeycomb Crew Neck Sweater from Cooper Jones ($100). I first tried on the sweater with just an undershirt.

It felt like it needed something more, so I decided to try the sweater with a collared shirt. I grabbed one of my old favorites from Old Navy to see how it would look.

The sweater was pretty decent, but we decided it wasn’t worth keeping. So back to Bombfell it went.

Grayers Blackburn Spread Collar Long Sleeve Shirt

And then: more plaid! I think my stylist Noel noticed I have a fair amount of plaid shirts. This one is the Blackburn Spread Collar Long Sleeve Shirt from Grayers ($88).

I love this shirt. It fit perfectly and was on the thicker side. I have a number of plaid shirts (clearly), but none of them are very thick. A warmer shirt was a great addition to the wardrobe. I decided to keep this one.

Sons of Fortune Denton Twill Blazer

My last item is the Denton Twill Blazer in navy from Sons of Fortune ($149). I only have one blazer right now, so this new one had my interest right away. I threw it on over the Grayers plaid shirt to get started and see how it would look casually with jeans and shirt.

I liked it. It fit perfectly and looked great with the red plaid shirt and jeans. Since I often wear blazers to work with khakis, I put on khakis and a tie to see how it would look as officewear.

Pretty great, huh? Yeah, I totally kept it.

How Bombfell Works

Signing up for Bombfell is pretty straightforward, just like any other online account. You give them your email address and other information. Then you get into your style profile, which you Stitch Fixers are pretty familiar with. Bombfell does a pretty good job of adding a bit of fun to completing your style profile. You have to let them know what type of fit you like as well as your general style preferences.

You also put in your pant and shirt sizes. When you do that, you can also tell Bombfell where you usually shop for your clothes.

Bombfell Style Profile

After telling Bombfell your clothing sizes and brands you usually buy, you can then give them your actual measurements. I had Maria take my measurements so we could make them as accurate as possible. The more data you give Bombfell, the better your clothes will fit.

Bombfell Style Profile

And, of course, you should upload photos with your style to help your stylist pick out clothes you’ll like. The more photos, the better. I’ll probably go back at some point and upload more.

Bombfell Style Profile

After setting all your personal details, you can tell Bombfell how often to send you clothes, how many pieces of clothing to send, and what your budget is for various items of clothing.

Bombfell Style Profile

Once you are all set, Bombfell will tell you when you can expect your next shipment and how many items will be in it. You specify the types of clothing your want or leave it up to your stylist to surprise you.

Bombfell Next Shipment

Before your next shipment, you’ll get an email from your stylist with a note about what you are receiving and when you can expect it.

I think I’ll have to talk the hubby into giving this a try. Looks like he got some great stuff! Love that the two of you work together on these posts. : )
