Here we are again, with a brand new Stitch Fix review to ring in the New Year! It may surprise you to hear that I rarely request certain types of clothes from my stylist. By now, Kate knows me and my routines fairly well. She knows I teach kindergarten in a private school and spend my time out of the classroom cuddling my sweet (but spit-uppy) baby girl at home. As my personal stylist, Kate does a great job of selecting clothes for my roles as teacher and mommy that usually fit my style to a T. She did another amazing job once again this month and I can’t wait to share my January fix with you!

Evianna Colorblock Sweater
I have such a heart for neutrals and I was overjoyed to see that Kate sent a gray and black Evianna Colorblock Sweater from 41Hawthorn ($58) in my fix. The slightly asymmetrical design adds a touch of interest without going overboard, and I love the diagonal spin on the traditional color block style. I couldn’t help but notice that this sweater was very similar to the peach and light coral design of the Presley Colorblock Button-Back Sweater from 41Hawthorn that came in my January fix two years ago (yes, I’ve been a loyal Stitch Fix customer for that long). The Evianna Colorblock Sweater didn’t have any buttons on the back, but that was ok with me.
This great staple sweater was super-easy to style for work. I just added my go-to statement necklace (similar here), a thick pair of black leggings (like the J Crew Anyday pants), and black riding boots. The cold weather has arrived in Michigan and I am all about the thick pants and riding boot combo these days. (I especially love these boots because they aren’t real leather so I don’t feel guilty wearing them in the snow, ice, and slush!)
The sweater was comfortable, washable, neutral and a great fit. Best of all, it was long enough for me to confidently wear it with legging-style pants and still feel work appropriate. The Evianna Colorblock Sweater made it onto my short list of pieces to consider keeping from this fix.

Nastiah Color Block Pullover
The black and gray sweater wasn’t the only pop of color block that Kate sent my way this month. She also sent a beautiful black, gray and cobalt Nastiah Color Block Pullover from Pixley ($58). Cobalt blue isn’t usually a color I reach for, but this sweater was a stunner! It also happened to be soft, washable and very cozy.
Since I was already stepping out of my comfort zone by wearing such a bold shade of blue, I decided to keep right on pushing the style envelope. I paired the sweater with the same statement necklace (similar), and added my Liverpool stretch jeans and a pair of black waterproof ankle booties.
This sweater wasn’t my usual style, but I couldn’t deny that it was a perfect fit and a great statement piece. I had some serious thinking to do about which item to keep from my fix this month!

Dayna Skinny Jean
Of course, every great sweater deserves a perfect-fitting pair of jeans – which is exactly what Kate must have been thinking when she sent the Dayna Skinny Jean from Kut From the Kloth ($88) my way. I tried on the jeans with my matte black Tieks to create a more casual look that reflected my usual laid-back style.
I gotta say, these jeans were good. They fit like they were made for me. I have no idea how I can shop in stores for hours without every finding a great-fitting pair of pants, while my stylist always manages to send perfect pants my way, but I swear Stitch Fix is worth trying just for the pants!
I wasn’t in the market for a new pair of jeans (my Kensie jeans from a few years back are a similar style that still fit great) but I would have kept these for sure if I needed some new denim.
If you’re curious about Tieks, I highly recommend them as an investment piece. I own a few different pair and wear them often in the warmer months. They’re great for work, for running errands, even for our weekend walks through the neighborhood. You can read more about Tieks in this blog post.
Rosalie Brushed Flannel Top
I love wearing all things plaid in the winter and was happy to see that Kate had included the Rosalie Brushed Flannel Top from Cloth & Stone ($84) in my January fix. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the best plaid top for me.
In addition to the high price tag, the top was also tricky to style. The top was super-soft, which made it feel more like loungewear than the kind of top I would wear out and about. Because of it’s lightweight softness, the top didn’t have a lot of body or structure, so it wore more like pajamas. It was also a little boxier than I prefer to wear.
Given the softness and lack of body, I decided to take a cue from the top and style it as though I were lounging around the house! It paired great with a classic pair of black leggings and my North Face boots (similar here) in case I had to run to the car or shovel a little freshly fallen snow.
If you’re looking for a really amazing, soft plaid shirt at a great price, check out the Ochenta plaid shirts on Amazon. Just make sure you size WAY up (I own one and it’s an XL).

Candria Ribbed Shawl Cardigan
And just like that, I had only one item left to try on! The fifth item in my January fix was a burgundy Candria Ribbed Shawl Cardigan from Pixley ($68).
Much like the plaid top, this sweater was begging to wrap me up and keep me cozy, to I styled it for a snuggly day at home. I kept on the black leggings, added a basic striped tee, and threw on my Ugg slippers.
Yes, this was absolutely a great outfit to wear around the house. The only problem was the price. If I’m going to be lazy around the house and risk getting all sorts of messes on myself from the baby, I prefer to outfit myself in inexpensive clothes that I don’t mind getting a little messy.
If my budget or the baby weren’t considerations, this sweater would definitely be a keeper.

What I Kept from My January Fix
After trying on all five items from my January Stitch Fix box, I had a tough choice to make! I could either keep the black and gray sweater that perfectly fit my style and was great for work or I could push the envelope a bit and keep the black and cobalt color block sweater. It was such a difficult choice (especially since they were both machine washable and the same price!) I went back and forth and even asked Rob what he thought. Rob preferred the simple black and gray sweater, so that’s the one I decided to keep. But I have to admit, I am certain I will get more use out of the black and gray Evianna Colorblock Sweater, but the blue and black Nastiah Color Block Pullover was absolutely the more beautiful choice.
