Without a doubt, Stitch Fix has become one of the things I look forward to most each month. I love new clothes and never have time to shop, so I cannot express how helpful it has been for my personal stylist, Layla, to select five great clothing items and ship them to me. I try on the items in the comfort of my home, mix them with existing pieces in my wardrobe, keep the items I want, and return the pieces that aren’t what I need. Shipping and returns are free and the process is painless for a busy woman who’s always on the go. Layla has been consistently styling me for several months and she knows just which type of items I like. My 16th fix arrived this week and it did not disappoint!
I am so happy to show you which items arrived in my January Stitch Fix box.
When I opened the box, my eye was immediately drawn to this gorgeous Ackley Houndstooth Print Blouse from 41Hawthorn ($68). I have a slight obsession with houndstooth and I love that this blouse was long sleeved.
The blouse was simple and elegant on it’s own, but also looked fabulous and playful when paired with a brightly colored cardigan.
I had also requested pants that I could wear to work with either boots or flats. My stylist sent a black pair of Emer High Waisted Tall Trouser pants from Margaret M ($98). These pants were interesting, basically a cross between leggings and dress pants. The fabric was definitely dress pant quality, but they were stretchy and did not have a zipper or buttons. I was intrigued.
I kept on the houndstooth blouse and put on my favorite pair of black patent heels. They looked great! The cut of the pants wasn’t as tight and clingy as leggings so they automatically looked a little more professional, but I would definitely recommend wearing the pants with blouses and sweaters that provide a little coverage for your rear end.
Also, while pants fit great in the legs, I’m concerned they will be a tinge too big around the waist. Since they are high-waisted, I am hopeful that they won’t be as prone to sagging and sliding as much as many of my other pants. I’m doing the Whole30 this month and I expect to have a smaller waist when the month is complete, so these pants are a big experiment at the moment. We will see what the future holds, but I am so desperate for pants, it is a risk I am willing to take.
The third item in my fix was a dark green Concord Striped Draped Pocket Cardigan from 41Hawthorn. The fabric of this cardigan was very soft and super-comfy.
I wanted to liven up the green and gray stripes of the cardigan so I didn’t look to drab from head to toe. I found the Chandler black and white print Ikat blouse from Olive & Oak that was included in my 3rd fix. The bold black and white patten was a perfect compliment to this draped cardigan. I also loved the added pocket detail.
You can see that I kept on the same black Emer pants for this outfit and traded the heels for my black boots. Another win for the pants. They were tailored enough to wear with boots without any unsightly bunching. As for the cardigan, I think I’ll send it back and request a different color. I try to wear brighter colors as often as possible in the winter and this one was just a touch too dark. It’s a shame because it fit nicely and was so flattering!
Black boots are Naturalizer boots from Amazon. They are unbelievably comfortable and are genuine leather.
The fourth item in my fix was a black Morgan Mix Knit Raglan Top from Loveappella ($54). The sleeves had an interesting knit texture that I was immediately intrigued by. What a great way to add a pop of interest to what could otherwise be a very ordinary shirt.
This top was already so carefree and pretty, it didn’t much styling help from me. I layered the top with a black Old Navy tank and my favorite silver necklace (another great Old Navy find), kept on my black boots & pants, and was ready to go. This outfit was perfectly weekend chic.
The best part? I noticed a tag on the top at proudly indicated it was made in the USA. That sealed it. This shirt was a definite keeper.
The final item in my fix was a blue Kerri Abstract Print Sheath Dress from Leota ($138). Layla has sent some truly beautiful dresses my way the past few months so I was anxious to try this one on.
I wore the dress with the navy blue Benson 3/4 Ruched Sleeve Blazer from 41Hawthorn that I received in my 13th fix. Unfortunately, this dress was definitely not for me. I loved the print, but it was a little too short for this kindergarten teacher.
I started out with black opaque tights (my favorite trick for making dresses seem a little longer) and black heels. It was pretty, but definitely too short.
I thought that perhaps the heels were accentuating my height too much, so I traded the heels for my favorite brown boots (similar boots can be found here). I loved the look of the dress with the boots, but it was still too short and just beyond my comfort level. Sadly, I chose to return the dress to Stitch Fix.

One last note…
If you are a regular reader of the blog, you are aware that Rob and I are working to pull ourselves out of $180,000 in student loan debt (no, that’s not a typo… there really are 4 zeros in that number). You may be wondering how I can possibly afford $98 dress pants when we have so much debt to pay off. This is how: I started receiving fixes last winter (several months before Rob and I were engaged). At the time, it was a luxury that fit within my disposable income. I wrote about my fixes often on my teaching blog and shared my referral link each time. So many people signed up with my link, that I was able to build up a bank of credit to use on the site. All of my clothes are currently funded by that credit. I am tremendously appreciative of everyone that has signed up with my link. Fans love reading about my fixes and the sign ups allow us to keep the fun going on both blogs :)
I’m linking up with the Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday. Check out more great fashions from other bloggers.
