As we settle in to mid-September, there’s a hint of fall in the air. The nights are cooling off and the air has a crisp feeling to it. I’m not quite ready to break out the riding boots and cozy sweaters, but my wardrobe is beginning to transition for the coming season. I recently discovered the most beautiful plaid scarf at Charming Charlie and it has quickly become one of my favorite accessories of the season. The plaid design is a nod to fall, but I love how well it pairs with my bright summer tops.

I recently paired the plaid scarf with a series of tops from my closet. Every blouse, cardigan and blazer came from Stitch Fix. This summer I received a fix that was filled solid color blouses and dresses. It was heavenly! I highly recommend requesting an all-blouse fix from your stylist. In addition to the scarf, I also wore the same pair of Kensie jeans (also from Stitch Fix) and matte black Tieks in all of these photos. It’s amazing how each outfit has such a unique personality, despite the fact that I only changed my top for the photos. I’ve also included links to tops in similar color below each style so you can recreate the look at home.
#1 with a Kelly green sleeveless blouse
Fall may be approaching, but it’s not here yet! I love how this scarf looks with the 41Hawthorn Carla Crochet Detail Blouse I received in my 38th fix. The sleeveless top keeps the look light, breezy, and perfect for a lingering warm weather.
#2 with a bright yellow top
Speaking of warm weather, I love how the scarf looks with a sunny yellow blouse. We can briefly overlook the fact that I’m a Michigan State graduate wearing blue and gold. I can’t help it. The color combination of my 41Hawthorn Breyson Split Neck Pleated Sleeveless Blouse (more photos here) and the dark denim is just so perfect.
#3 with a Fuchsia Blouse
My blouse may be sleeveless, but the rich fuchsia color is a nod to the cooler temperatures. I love, love, love how the plaid scarf enhances the vibrancy of the Walden V-Neck Blouse from my 25th fix.
#4 with Bright Blue and Coral
The scarf has a few subtle brighter stripes of cornflower blue and orange. I decided to capitalize on both of those colors with an unexpected pairing of the cobalt Jillian Crochet Detail Tank from my 8th fix and the coral Martina Slub Knit Open Cardigan from my 23rd fix. This color pairing gives the scarf a softer look, which lets me deny the upcoming cool temperatures while I add an extra layer.
#5 with a Classic Navy Top
Sometimes you just can’t go beat a crisp navy blouse for an easy preppy look. The Dawney Scallop Trim Blouse from 41Hawthorn that I received in my 38th fix is an instant classic and it brings an extra polish to the ensemble. The navy also downplays some of the other colors in the plaid and makes the scarf feel a little more grown up.
#6 with an Emerald Green Blouse
Try as a I might, my seasonal denial can only last so long. Eventually I will just accept the cooler temperatures and the change of season. And on that day, I will dress in deeper hues and jewel tones. Like the Sylvester Split Neck Blouse from Brixon Ivy that came in my 33rd fix. I had previously styled the blouse with black accents, but I love how the colors of the plaid scarf brighten the blouse to make it feel less wintry.
#7 With a Black Top
If I’m getting ready for a casual evening out with friends, I just need to pair the scarf with a black top. It’s a simple, comfortable outfit with a twist. I love how the colors pop against the simple black top. And the Jamie Button Down Cotton Shirt from my 15th fix has the perfect casual touch.
#8 with a Gold Blouse and Navy Blazer
If you find yourself needing to dress up just a little more, style the plaid scarf with a solid color blouse with a navy blazer. I paired the Eston Button-Up Sleeveless Blouse from my 13th fix with the Kaylie French Terry Blazer that I received in my 33rd fix. The result was just a little more refined, without being too serious.
Wardrobe Essentials
And there you have it! Eight easy ways to style a gorgeous plaid scarf as we transition into fall. I love it when I discover a new accessory that can easily be paired with multiple items in my closet and this scarf did not disappoint. I highly recommend grabbing it from Charming Charlie while you can! My Kensie jeans and Matte Black Tieks also went the distance and proved themselves to be classic wardrobe essentials once again!

My Stitch Fix Obsession
Buying the occasional scarf or cute pair of flats is one thing, but building a wardrobe the old fashioned way is not something I have the time or energy for these days. I love Stitch Fix because my personal stylist hand-picks items for me and ships them directly to my door. You can read more about my Stitch Fix obsession in this blog post and discover all my tricks for getting the very best clothes every time.
I may be in denial about summer coming to a close, but at least I can look fabulous wearing my favorite plaid scarf as I transition into fall.

I’ve had many requests from readers to learn more about how I tie and wear this scarf, so I created a quick little video that takes you step by step through the process. I promise it’s so easy and there isn’t any fancy tying trick involved. Enjoy!
